flat s visits the UK during easter

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had an update from Flat S, hasn’t it? The last time we heard from her, she had just wrapped up her time in Portugal with Ana Sofia and her family. Well, it seems Flat S made her way back to the UK and has been exploring the sights there with Maria and her family. Maria hails from Portugal but has been living in the UK for the past couple of years now. She has twin six-year-old girls, and when they moved, she began sewing outfits for them. If you’re interested in learning more about Maria’s sewing adventures, you can check out her blog, Fairies, Bubbles & Co. Here’s Maria. [Image description: The Flat S Tour logo] In March, we were thrilled to welcome a very special visitor—Flat S! My daughters and I are huge fans of Oliver + S clothing, so naturally, we were eager to take her straight to some of our favorite spots. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate at first, and we had to put things on hold—a logistical hiccup beyond our control. Thankfully, the weather finally improved just in time for Easter, and Flat S joined the girls in their egg hunt. They ended up with far too many sweets! We took advantage of the fine weather by heading to one of our favorite parks in Virginia Water. This park is stunning, with a lake, cascading waters, Roman ruins, a totem, and breathtaking landscapes—it’s perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. [Image description: A group of people riding scooters in a park] Afterwards, we ventured to Windsor to visit Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world, and the official residence of the Queen. Interestingly, the Queen was actually in the castle on the day we visited. Can you spot the flag flying from the tower? That means she’s there! [Image description: A view of Windsor Castle with the Queen's flag visible] Windsor isn’t just about the castle—it’s a charming city with picturesque streets and a bustling railway station. We also strolled along the banks of the River Thames, enjoying a peaceful walk in the park. [Image description: People walking along the River Thames] Before Flat S left, we couldn’t let her miss out on visiting London. First stop? The Natural History Museum, one of our favorite places. Coincidentally, the day before we visited, it had been 134 years since the museum first opened its doors to the public. [Image description: A view inside the Natural History Museum] Following the museum, we explored Westminster Abbey and caught a glimpse of Big Ben (even though we didn’t see it directly, we could hear it ringing beautifully). We continued our journey through St. James’s Park, where we spotted a variety of bird species, including pelicans, herons, and ducks, right in the heart of the city. [Image description: Birds in St. James’s Park] Feeling recharged, Flat S expressed a desire to visit one of London’s most iconic and bustling locations—Piccadilly Circus! [Image description: Piccadilly Circus at night] From there, we wandered through the theater district, wishing we’d managed to catch a musical (next time!). Eventually, we arrived at Covent Garden, a historic market that was transformed into a shopping center in the 1980s. Here, we found a mix of craft stalls and high-end stores, along with cozy eateries. My daughter M enjoys the violin players, while F adores the living statues. Flat S seemed to love it too, as seen in the picture where some young admirers greeted her. [Image description: Flat S with children in Covent Garden] We hope Flat S thoroughly enjoyed her stay with us. It was certainly memorable for all of us, and I’m confident she’ll have a fantastic time with her next host family. [Image description: A farewell shot of Flat S] Farewell, Flat S! It was wonderful having you here, and you’re always welcome back! Thank you, Maria. It’s clear Flat S had an amazing time. As always, we’re eagerly looking forward to hearing where she goes next.
