Shaxi Town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, want to create casual wear brand capital

By 2016, Shaxi Town in Zhongshan is expected to see its garment industry output exceed 35 billion yuan, representing a staggering 306% increase compared to the 2008 output value. This information was disclosed at the opening of the Tenth China Leisure and Fashion Expo held at the Zhongshan Expo Center. During an earlier press briefing, officials revealed the release of the "White Paper on the Development of Shaxi Garment Industry," which outlines the progress made by the town’s textile sector. In addition, an "Outline of the Overall Development Plan for the Garment Industry" has been drafted, detailing strategies for Shaxi's clothing industry over the next ten years. The plan emphasizes the construction of five key projects, including the "China National Clothing Expo." These initiatives aim to elevate Shaxi's status as a leading player in the Chinese garment industry. As part of the 10-year development strategy, the first phase (2010–2012) targets branded enterprises with output exceeding 500 million yuan, while the total garment industry output is expected to surpass 220 billion yuan. By 2013 and 2016, the number of large-scale enterprises is projected to exceed 300, with the overall industry output reaching over 350 billion yuan. From 2017 to 2020, the goal is to position Shaxi as a leader in the Chinese garment industry, establishing it as a center for casual wear and a national hub for strong clothing brands. Liu Beizhi, vice mayor of Shaxi Town, emphasized that the plan was developed based on the "Textile Industry Adjustment and Revitalization Plan" and the broader "Zhongshan City Development Plan," tailored specifically to the unique industrial characteristics of Shaxi. One of the key components of the outline is the construction of five major projects: the "China T-shirt City," "China National Costume Expo," "China Leisure and Cultural Park," "China Leisure Clothing Manor," and the "Shaxi Casual Clothing Cultural Square." Among these, the "China National Costume Expo" stands out, with an investment of over 100 million yuan planned. The project will showcase 56 ethnic costumes, blending traditional culture with modern fashion. The exhibition will also serve as a venue for designers and professionals to visit, learn, and appreciate the art of clothing. Another significant aspect of the plan involves strict environmental regulations. Projects that fail to meet national environmental standards or cause serious pollution will not be approved. Without proper environmental assessments, no land acquisition or business licenses will be granted. The plan also aims to address illegal sewage disposal and improve environmental supervision, contingency plans, and emergency response mechanisms. According to the Zhongshan Environmental Protection Bureau, pollution sources in the garment industry include chemicals used in fiber production, such as pesticides, herbicides, and dyes, as well as heavy metals and excessive wastewater. Shaxi must take a comprehensive approach to pollution control, ensuring sustainable development for the future.
