For the first time, the industry and commerce seized the clothing that infringed on the "Foudan" trademark

For the first time, industry and commerce authorities took action against the infringement of Fudan University's trademark rights on clothing items. (Reporter Chen Xin)

Recently, the Wujiaochang Branch of Yangpu District's Administration for Industry and Commerce received a report from Fudan University regarding unauthorized shops selling clothing featuring the university’s name and emblem. These shops had no official connection with Fudan University and were suspected of infringing on its registered trademark. Upon receiving the report, the branch leadership immediately prioritized the case. The head of the branch personally led a team of 11 officers to conduct a thorough inspection of stores along Handan Road, resulting in the seizure of 715 counterfeit garments.

According to information obtained, Fudan University's "Fudan" trademark was officially recognized as a well-known trademark by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce's Trademark Office on August 20, 2007. Since then, numerous cases of trademark infringement have been addressed by the industry and commerce departments, mostly involving training institutions that falsely used the Fudan name for educational activities. However, this is the first time that a significant infringement of Fudan University's trademark has been discovered in the clothing sector. This case highlights the growing need for stronger protection of intellectual property, especially for well-known brands. Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to prevent further violations and ensure that the reputation and rights of Fudan University are properly safeguarded.
