2010 China Lingwu International Cashmere Contest

The 2010 China (Lingwu) International Cashmere Fashion Design Contest reached its exciting climax during the festival. A total of 24 contestants made it to the finals, each bringing unique visions and creative expressions. Among them, contestant No. 7, Luo Hui, captured the spotlight with his collection titled “Interpretation Fangyuan.” Drawing inspiration from the philosophy of “round and square, harmony and unity,” his designs combined traditional concepts with modern fashion elements, making the collection stand out and ultimately earning him the gold medal.

Organized jointly by the China Wool Textile Industry Association, the China Fashion Designers Association, and the Lingwu City Government of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the contest aimed to bridge the gap between innovative design and high-quality cashmere materials. The organizers emphasized that the event was not just about competition, but also a platform to foster creativity and promote independent innovation in Chinese cashmere apparel design. By blending artistic vision with technical craftsmanship, they hoped to elevate the global image of Chinese fashion.

Among the 24 participants were emerging talents from across China and Hong Kong, each bringing fresh perspectives and bold, avant-garde styles to the runway. Their designs reflected a wide range of inspirations—urban sophistication, rural simplicity, Zen aesthetics, and cultural traditions. As models showcased the intricately crafted cashmere pieces, the collection demonstrated how style, shape, color, and accessories could come together to define the latest trends in fashion. According to Chen Wuhui, mayor of Lingwu City, the theme of the contest was “Melting Velvet,” symbolizing the fusion of designer creativity and the timeless beauty of cashmere. This event not only celebrated the artistry of fashion but also highlighted the potential of cashmere as a versatile and elegant material for future design innovations.
