Planting green for 20 years, creating an ecological Weizhou Island

In the morning, take a walk to the Lake Shiji Ecological Wetland Park, watch the spring blossoms, and the grass grows long; take a leisurely stroll along the roundabout road into the night, listen to the coconut wind bursts, and the sound of the island. This is the life that Chen Ruiping, the first secretary of Beijiao Village in Weizhou Town, has been yearning for, and is also a true life portrayal of every Weizhou Islander. "Who can think that the bald islands that used to be 'only long stones and no grass, sea breeze blowing sand' will change and become an ecological island where 'going out is vacation, going home is pension'." Standing in front of their own house, Looking at the green trees and the leafy Pazhou Avenue not far away, Chen Ruiping was filled with emotion.

Weizhou Island is the birthplace of Mazu culture and a national tourist resort. It attracts thousands of Mazu believers and tourists to visit and travel every year.

In March 1998, the leaders of the Fujian Provincial Government went to Weizhou Island to participate in afforestation and put forward the requirement of “must protect the Weizhou Island”. Since then, more than 40,000 cadres and people on the island have been eager to remember, and for a long time, they have been practicing for 20 years.

In the past 20 years, Weizhou Island has won a series of “National Afforestation and Greening Baijia County (District)”, “National Greening Advanced Collective”, “National Greening Model County (District)”, China’s first island ecological civilization construction demonstration base, etc. honor.

Today, Weizhou Island has a forest of 10,000 trees, and the greenery is full of islands. The green coverage rate is 52%, and the ecological civilization construction has reached a new level.

Bald islands smeared with "green makeup", "butterfly" is not easy

In Chen Ruiping's memory, when the child was in the winter, the northwest wind rolled up the sky and the sand was able to eat a mouthful of sand. "The wind blows the sand, the sweet potato is the grain, the toilet is like a bunker, and the girl runs barefoot." This is a true portrayal of the old ecological environment in Weizhou Island and the backward living conditions.

The development of Weizhou Island is based on afforestation and improvement of ecology.

"At the time, it was very simple. Planting trees is not a step of digging, planting, cultivating, and watering." Lin Guoyue, director of the Municipal Garden Department of the Weizhou Island National Tourism Resort Management Committee, recalled the scene of afforestation. To improve the island's ecology, we must first prevent wind and sand, and Casuarina is suitable for sand, so it is planted on a large scale all year round. However, the sea sand on the frontier of the Weizhou Island gulf continues to follow the wind every year, accumulating in the forefront of the coast, and the survival rate and preservation rate of afforestation are low. "At the time, my heart was uncomfortable. I also knew that planting trees on Weizhou Island is different from other places. I must come up with the courage and wisdom of ' fighting with the sky and fighting the earth.'"

It is not enough to plant a large tree on this island with large sea breeze and high salinity. It is not enough to plant trees on a large scale. It is necessary to constantly experiment and find scientific cultivation methods. "At first, a group of bees were planting large-scale wind-shrimp trees such as Casuarina and Acacia in March. It is also hoped to increase the survival rate and preservation rate by giving the seedlings a cover cloth." Lin Guoyue introduced, but on Weizhou Island. Planting trees is harder to serve than growing vegetables. “Later, through technical research, we have summed up the experience that Casuarina has an active period of root growth around the end of April each year, when the planting survival rate is the highest. So we chose to start large-scale planting of Casuarina at the end of April.”

After years of hard work, the green barrier of Weizhou Island has gradually been built and the ecological environment has been greatly improved.

The outer wind-proof barrier is set up, and the greening and fragrance of the internal ecological environment should be fully rolled out.

However, like the windbreaks, the greening of the island has also encountered difficulties. "The tree is a kind of dead, dead species, it is really repeated defeats, and repeated defeats." Lin Guoyue introduced, bagged seedlings, digging guest soil, simmering chicken manure... In addition to purchasing saplings for government procurement, the garden department set up itself Greening the company, the rest of the work is all done by yourself. The domestication of flowers and trees, adapting them to the environment of Weizhou Island, coupled with the improvement of the soil and the careful management of the later period, the survival rate of seedlings has steadily increased year by year. “In recent years, our planting survival rate has exceeded 90%. The number of trees that can survive has increased from more than a dozen to more than 200 now,” said Lin Guoyue.

Now walking on Weizhou Island, looking forward to it, on the 14.35 square kilometers of land, Casuarina constitutes the "wind defense army"; the mangrove grows into "coast guardian"; black pine sticks to every position on the hill; "Xiaoshu brothers" such as Xiangxi, arranged in a strip of green belt; hibiscus, oleander and other landscape flowers, the island is dotted with extraordinary beauty; and the longan, scorpion and other fruit trees behind the house in front of the island house, distributed The fragrance of the whole island has reached 6186 mu, the greening rate of forest land has reached 77.63%; the area of garden green space has reached 1,371,400 square meters, the green coverage rate has reached 52%; the per capita garden green area is 35.17 square meters... For ten years, Weizhou Island handed over a beautiful ecological answer sheet.

All the people plant trees to protect the green, sharing the ecological dividend

Gao Jinkui, the 61-year-old executive deputy director of the Pazhou Town Elderly Committee, participated in the afforestation in 1998. At that time, as an "economic man", Lao Gao was asked to return to Xiting Village on the island to serve as the village party secretary.

“At the time, Xiting Village dispatched more than 200 people to participate in afforestation. Provincial and municipal leaders, island institutions, schools and ordinary people, hundreds of people formed a tree planting army. I was the first to plant such a large-scale tree planting activity. See you again." Lao Gao was very impressed.

Since then, Weizhou Island has implemented a greening and afforestation theme every year. The whole planting of trees has also been carried out year by year, and the whole island has stepped into the “ecological island”.

As a witness to the beautiful butterfly change in Weizhou Island, Lao Gao still remembers the 2007 National Tree Planting: “In 2007, the afforestation on the island focused on the theme of “Gang Mazu Tree”. Construction, launching afforestation for the whole people, planting more than 150,000 trees of various types, completing 1,000 acres of shelterbelt construction and 400 acres of greenery on the four sides."

Only one old man, in the past 20 years, he has participated in afforestation of about 200 acres.

Greening afforestation requires land transfer. Land construction is also required for project construction and islander production and life. How do islanders choose between ecological and economic benefits? “More islands have chosen to make way for greening and afforestation.” Li Jinrong, director of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Bureau of the Weizhou Island National Tourism Resort Management Committee, said that Weizhou Island has realized the beautiful butterfly change from the bald island to the green island. Witnessed the tenacity of the people of Weizhou Island for a long time.

Today's Weizhou Island, no longer rolling up the sky and yellow sand when the wind rises, the green of the eyes makes the island more vibrant, and the second flowering landscape tree makes the Weizhou Island more colorful. The wind and sand became smaller, the environment became better, the island became beautiful, and the green adherence of Weizhou Island finally came to the spring of development. “The most intuitive result is that the soil is getting better, the islanders can grow crops, and the fruit trees can survive. At the same time, environmental upgrading has brought about changes in economic development.” Chen Ruiping said that in recent years, with the booming tourism industry, Coupled with the continuous improvement of the island's infrastructure, Weizhou Island became famous for its “soft beach, clean sea water and fresh air”, and it became a “sweet” overnight.

Gao Qiuyuan, who runs a homestay red store on Weizhou Island, has been working outside 2014. "At that time, I often went back to the island because of my work relationship. After several times, I found that everything on the island had changed dramatically. I resigned and went back to the island to open a homestay." Gao Qiuyuan said that in order to integrate into the ecological butterfly of the island, since the opening of the house He has carried out no less than 4 times of greening and coloring in front of the house. "I hope to add more green to the island and retain one more guest."

Opening a homestay, doing catering, selling specialty products, more and more people in Weizhou Island began to enjoy the ecological dividend, and won the "golden rice bowl" of tourism economy. “The road near Lianchi Beach in Donghuan Road has become a 'beach street.' During the peak season, many islands on the island need to book a room half a month or even a month in advance.” Gao Qiuyuan said that in 2014, the island’s homestay also There are only 26, and now there are more than 100.

According to statistics, in 2017, Weizhou Island has completed a total tourism income of 3.51 billion yuan. The number of visitors has reached 3 million, 4 million, and 5 million person-times since 2014, and is expected to reach 6.2 million in 2018. Adhering to green development, Weizhou Island has created a national 5A-level tourist scenic spot, which is expected to be in the future.
